Sanderling is home to deer, small mammals, and numerous bird species; the Sound, lagoons, and lakes in the area are rich in aquatic life.

Maritime trees, shrubs, and grasses shaped by the wind and sea, have been carefully tended and all construction in Sanderling is regulated to minimize the loss of natural vegetation.

Within this well-preserved environment, Sanderling community pays tribute to a simple and unadorned life at the beach. It is a place for the gathering of family and friends who come principally to enjoy the environment.

Please do not walk on the dunes, damage sand fences, or damage or remove sea oats or other foliage as they help preserve and protect our community and delicate ecology.

Beach access is available using Boardwalks 5 through 11. The closest access to The Lookout is access #6. (Just a 5 min. walk.)

Access to the Currituck Sound is available at the piers and boat ramp located at the Sanderling Racquet and Swim Club one mile north of The Lookout.

All other piers and beach or sound access locations are private property.
