This iconic red-brick beauty has been guiding ships along the Outer Banks since 1875, and it\u2019s still standing tall at 162 feet. Currituck Beach Lighthouse<\/strong>\u00a0 is the last brick-and-mortar lighthouse built in North Carolina\u2014and its unpainted red brick really makes it stand out. It was designed to help sailors tell it apart from the other coastal lighthouses in the area, and it's got some serious history behind it!<\/p>\n

This lighthouse is a first-order lighthouse<\/strong>, meaning it\u2019s got the biggest Fresnel lens out there (yep, there are seven sizes!). Its light flashes every 20 seconds and can be seen from a whopping 18 nautical miles away!
